Kareena Kapoor Personal and Professional life :

Kareena Kapoor was born on 21st September, 1980 to actor Randhir Kapoor and actress Babita Kapoor. She is the grand daughter of late Raj Kapoor. Her elder sister Karishma Kapoor was also an actress in Bollywood and reached the top level too. Her parents were separated due to some dispute and she was living with her mother along with Karishma. Kareena started her studies from Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai then moved to Welham Girls Boarding School in Dehradun. After finishing from the Boarding School she pursued commerce at Mithibai College in Vile Parle in Mumbai for two years. Kareena then admitted for a course in microcomputers at Harvard University in the United States for three months. She further got interested in law and joined the Government Law College in Churchgate; but she left the studies after completing one year at Churchgate as she got interested in joining Hindi Movies. She took training at an reputed acting institute by Kishore Namit Kapoor in Andheri to join Hindi movies.

She entered the Bollywood after dispute between their parents as Kapoor family don't have a tradition of sending their ladies members into the movie business. So her entry was also raised many eyebrows in the family but ultimately she managed to get into the Bollywood movies. Her first movie was J.P.Dutta's Border which was marking the debut of Amitabh Bachchan's son Abhishek Bachchan in hindi movies. The movie also starred Sunil Shetty and Jackie Shroff. The movie didn't do well but her acting skills were appreciated by audience as well as Industry. She signed a lot of movies and many of them get bombed but Industry never blamed Kareena for these debacles. Kareena's next successful movie was Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham of Karan Johar which included stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan etc. The movie was the biggest hit of that year but being a multistarrer and with all the mega stars in it Kareena didn't got much space though she was appreciated.

She further went to appear in Chameli in 2004 where she played a prostitute with Rahul Bose and Govind Nihlani's Dev where she worked against Amitabh Bachchan and Fardeen Khan. Both the movie were flop but established her as an actress. Kareena's bollywood journey continiued without much to mention except in 2006 Vishal Bhardawaj's Omkara where she worked with Ajay Devgan, Bipasha Basu, Saif Ali Khan etc. The movie was a big hit and audience appreciated her role. In the year 2007 came Imitiaz Ali's Jab We Met with Shahid Kapoor. This movie was a great success and Kareena role was very much appreciated and she won the filmfare award for the best actress for her role.

In the year 2008 Yash Raj's much hyped Tashan with co star Akhshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan bombed at the box office and Kareena was criticized for exposure and size zero flaunting. Rohit Shetty's Golmaal Returns with Ajay Devgan, Arshad Warsi, Tushar Kapoor went on to become a big hit. In 2009 her big movies like Sajid Nadiadwala's Kambakht Ishq with Akhshay Kumar, Sohail Khan's Main Aur Mrs. Khanna with Salman Khan and Sohail Khan and Dharma Productions Kurbaan with Saif Ali Khan and Vivek Oberoi, all of them were average or bombed at box office but Raju Hirani's 3-Idiot with Aamir Khan broke all the records in the box office and till date its the highest grosser and elite member of 200crores earning movie club from Bollywood.

In 2010 all of her movies were average except Golmaal 3 of Rohit Shetty where she came along with Ajay Devgan and rest other star cast of Golmal series. The movie was a super duper hit and earned more than 100 crores on box office. In 2011 Karishma again bounce back with Salman's home production Bodyguard with Salman Khan, which broke all the records and currently the number two position in the list of all time gross earners movie of Hindi cinema. The same year Shahrukh's home production Ra.One with Shahrukh Khan didn't do well despite its huge budget but still manages to become a big hit.


Studies :

Kareena was a good student and received first-class honours in all subjects except mathematics. Upon graduating from the boarding school, she studied commerce for two years at Mithibai College in Vile Parle, Mumbai, but later confessed that she only studied there because she was close to her family. Kapoor then registered for a three-month summer course in microcomputers at Harvard University in the United States. She later developed an interest in law and enrolled at the Government Law College in Church gate; during this period she became immersed in law books and developed a long-lasting passion for reading. However, after completing one year at Church gate, Kapoor realized that she was not inclined towards academics and returned to her initial plan to become an actress. She began training at an acting institute in Andheri, mentored by Kishore Namit Kapoor, a member of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

Career :

She made her debut later that year in J.P. Dutta’s war drama Refugee, alongside Abhishek Bachchan. Refugee became the fifth highest-grossing film in India in 2000, and Kapoor’s performance earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. In 2001, Kapoor appeared opposite Tusshar Kapoor in the romantic drama Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai, which became one of the highest earners of the year. She next starred in Subhash Ghai’s family drama Yaadein alongside Jackie Shroff and Hrithik Roshan. The film was met with negative reactions from reviewers and garnered poor box office returns. Kapoor then appeared in the Abbas-Mustan thriller Ajnabee. The feature was adapted from the 1992 American thriller filmConsenting Adults, and was a moderate box office success in India.

The following year, Kapoor went on to feature in the critically acclaimed drama Asoka, for which she earned her first Filmfare nomination for Best Actress, and the melodrama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…, which became one of her biggest commercial successes to date. After receiving negative reviews for a series of repetitive roles, she was noted for her performance in Sudhir Mishra’s Chameli. Her portrayal of a sex worker in the film won her a special jury recognition at the Stardust and Filmfare ceremonies, among others. FollowingChameli, she went on to feature in the critically acclaimed projects, Dev (2004) and Omkara(2006), both of which earned her different nominations at major award ceremonies. In 2007, Kapoor earned several awards for her performance in the romantic comedy Jab We Met, including her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She went on to play the lead female role in the thriller Kurbaan (2009), for which she earned critical acclaim, and the drama 3 Idiots(2009), which became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time. Both films won her the award for Best Actress (Popular Choice) at the Screen Awards and Kapoor later received the IIFA Award for Best Actress for her performance in 3 Idiots. Kapoor received further success in 2011 by starring as the love interest of Salman Khan in the romantic drama Bodyguard, She next appeared in Anubhav Sinha’s science fiction film Ra.One, alongside Shahrukh Khan.Ra.One went on to become one of the highest earners of the year and Kapoor’s fourth major success in three consecutive years. She followed it by playing the female lead in Shakun Batra’s directorial debut Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (2012), alongside Imran Khan.

Controversies of Kareena Kapoor :

Since Kareena's joining of bollywood, she was quite controversial with her habit to speak openly in the media about any issues. She was linked with Shahid Kapoor and this relationship was admitted by both but it didn't lasted long. In 2007 she was linked with Saif Ali Khan and both of them admitted the relationship and since then its quite a buzz in the media about this couple and media call them Saifeena. During the release of Kurbaan Shiv Sena activist angered by the poster of Kurbaan where she was showing baring her back in the poster. Shiv Sena activist tear the poster of Kurbaan and also gifted a Saree for Kareena Kapoor. Kareen also went to press and said that it should be matching to her status. Another controversie was a MMS of Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor's private moments that spread in the media created quite a buzz and can still be seen on internet.

Kareena Kapoor's marriage with Saif Ali Khan also getting controversial with shifts of date and the reports that Kareena will not change her religion or faith. Initial dates was speculated as October, 2012 and even confirmed by Sharmila Tagore but now some reports suggesting its changing to December, 2012.

Awards of Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor in her career nominated several times for awards and she won 4 times. In the year 2000 Kareena won her first award for Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut in Refugee. She won her second award Filmfare Award for Special Performance for Chameli in 2004. Her next was Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress in 2004 for Dev. In the year 2006,she won Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for Omkara. Later next year in 2007 she won Filmfare Award for Best Actress for Jab We Met. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2010 for We Are Family. She has a wax statue at famous Madamme Tussaud museum along with Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan and other dignitaries.
