Kareena had said in an interview a few years that her parents were never divorced, they had just stayed separately. She also said that her father always has been an important factor in her life though she was raised in the company of women at her mother’s Lokhandwala home.

Her first movie was supposed to be Kaho Na Pyaar Hain (2000) but later backed out several days into the filming, saying that she did not want to be a part of the film. She later said "it was probably destined that I was not to be in the film. After all, it was a launch for his son. The whole focus was on the boy. Now I am glad I did not do the movie.” Rumors however suggested that Kareena Kapoor’s relationship off and on relationship with Hrithik Roshan was also one of the reasons.

In the year 2000, three stars were born – Hrithik Roshan , Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor. Her debut movie ‘Refugee’ directed by J.P.Dutta was based on the Indo- Pakistani war of 1971. Though the movie bombed, Kareena Kapoor’s appreciation and screen presence was appreciated. She was spontaneous in the film, a quality that has always been her trademark in her performance. Kareena Kapoor ended up winning Filmfare Best Debut (Female) award for 2000 while Hrithik Roshan walked away with the Best Actor and Best Male Debut awards for Filmfare as well as many other prestigious awards.

KAREENA KAPOOR MOVIES LIST

Kareena Kapoor gave the audience a taste of her fine histrionics in ‘Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai’ a romantic movie which had Tusshar Kapoor making his debut, directed by Satish Kaushik. Critics had no problems stating that Kareena had the makings of a star as she had come up with seasoned performances in both Refugee and Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai.

Subash Ghai directed Yaadein in 2001 with Kareena and Hrithik Roshan in the main lead and the movie flopped badly. Kapoor then appeared in the Abbas-Mustan thriller Ajnabee (2001), a movie lifted from the 1992 American thriller film Consenting Adults. The movie did average business.

Ashoka the Great, starring Shah Rukh khan happened in 2001 and Kareena Kapoor’s sex appeal was there for all to see as Kaurwaki; this even won her first Filmfare Best Actress nomination. Kareena raised her hot quotient a good notches high as she displayed oomph with amazing abandon in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham in the character of ‘Poo’ (Poonam). The movie directed by Karan Johar was the biggest hit of 2001.

Kareena Kapoor fell in the jinx category as six movies flopped back to back Mujhse Dosti Karoge!, Jeena Sirf Merre Liye, Talaash: The Hunt Begins..., Khushi, Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, and the four-hour war epic LOC Kargil in the periods 2002 and 2003. Her performance came under criticism because critics found her hammy and repetitive.

Kareena decided to focus on her performance and bounced back in 2004 with the critically acclaimed ‘Chameli’ where she played the role of a prostitute. To prepare for the role, she even went to Mumbai’s shady red-light areas to come u with authentic characterization of mannerisms and dress. She proved herself with Dev and Yuva, two movies in which her performance shone through the respective films.

Between the periods 2004 and 2005, her success were balanced by her failures. While Fida made many people take her seriously as an actress, the movie flopped. However, Airtraaz and Hulchul did well for her but Kyon Ki and Bewafa flopped.

As the lively female protagonist Geet Dhillon, she walked away with Filmfare Best Actress Award for the superhit romantic comedy Jab We Met, directed by Imtiaz Ali.

By 2007, people noticed a change in her figure too. The voluptuous Kareena Kapoor had slimmed down to a pencil thin figure which was to showcase her in the 2008 movie Tashan. The high point of Tashan was Kareena Kapoor in a bikini. The multi-starrer with beau Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar in the main-lead bombed badly at the box office.

It was going to rain money on Kareena Kapoor’s roof soon and it did with Golmaal Returns (2008)), Rohit Shetty’s Sequel to his hit film. Critics panned the movie but it did not stop the movie from becoming a huge blockbuster. Kambakkht Ishq in 2009 showcased Kareena Kapoor’s sex appeal but the movie had not much to offer even though it had a special appearance from Sylvester Stallone. Kareena even won the ‘Kela award’ (Bollywood Razzies) for the worst performance of the year.

In 2009, Kareena worked opposite beau Saif Ali Khan in the critically acclaimed but commercially flop Kurbaan. She performed the role of a betrayed wife with utmost conviction. The two flops Milenge Milenge and We are Family were minor aberrations in Kareena’s glorious ride to success.
While 3 Idiots did Rs. 400 crore business in 2009, Kareena added to the box office revenues of 2012 as Golmaal 3 which earned nearly Rs. 200 crore.

Though it did not break many records, it is still considered a hit and one of the better movies of Kareena Kapoor. ‘Size does matter’
'I am hiding behind the Khans.'I have to call out, 'Hey, I am there too!' And all I am left with is a Chammak challo.'
'Let's not get into what I get and what Salman demands. There is a difference of several zeroes in the paycheque,'

KAREENA KAPOOR’S RELATIONSHIPS

The actress has been upfront about her long-term relationship with two men in her life Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. She says that she owes in to Shahid Kapoor for changing her as a person and making her humble by nature. She turned vegetarian because of him and has continued to do so. Though they broke up in 2006, the swan song in the form of Jab We Met made many wonder if Kareena should have split up with Shahid.

By 2007, Kareena Kapoor was coming closer to Saif Ali Khan; the relationship nurtured into one of the strongest bonds in this volatile industry. It is believed that Kareena Kapoor’s marriage to Saif Ali Khan will happen by late 2012 or early 2013.

KAREENA KAPOOR’S CONTROVERSIES

Controversy has always courted Kareena since the time she ventured into the industry. Not known to be exactly friendly with female stars in the earlier part of her career, she invited the ire of actresses lke Mallika Sherawat and Bipasha Basu, both calling her arrogant and thinking no end of herself. Kareena herself was quite uncharitable with her remarks not just for the girls but for the guys too.

For Preity Zinta-
"She said something about me and I retaliated...There was probably some misunderstanding which she wasn't interested in clearing up. That's fine by me because she's nowhere in competition with me." (Filmfare, May 2001)

For Sanjay Leela Bhansali (director of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam): "Sanjay Bhansali is a confused director. He is a person who does not stand by his word. He doesn't have any morals and principles in life." (Apparently, he had screentested her for Paro in Devdas but felt Aishwarya Rai better suited)
Bipasha Basu on Kareena - "They mentioned that Kareena had called me kali billi ['black cat' -- an insult regarding the shade of Basu's skin]... and I was mad at her. Why rake up all this now? I'm not denying the tension between Kareena and me. Yet I'm not looking to take her on. Ajnabee is over and done with." (Filmfare, Jan 2002)

For Amisha Patel

Listen, I have no problems with Amisha Patel. In fact, I even called her up after Gadar. I thought she was good and I told her so. Even at one of the award function I went up to her and said hello. If that's not graciousness then what is? What more can I do to make peace? On the contrary, her mother has been bitching about me to all and sundry. She's been going around saying that who does Kareena Kapoor think she is. She has given only flops. She'll never make it. Fine. So what happened to Amisha Patel's Zindagi Ka Safar? If Amisha's so confident of her talent then why is she screaming about her hits? Okay so I have given only flops. But why am I still being paid more than her? It's only talent that matters here. Raj Kapoor sold off his last shirt while making Mera Naam Joker. But he's considered the greatest showman even today. I have the talent. I'm confident. And I know I'll be remembered always. I don't want Amisha Patel's history hits. I don't want to be mediocre in hit films. I'd rather be brilliant in flop movies...

Kareena Kapoor’s on and off digs with Priyanka Chopra is ever popular and makes for good tabloid stories.
Kareena Kapoor was caught in the eye of storm when an MMS emerged showing her kissing Shahid Kapoor passionately. The actrsrs vehemently denied and said it was morphed but nobody accepted her view.

A controversy about ' Kareena Kapoor pregnant ' became active on social media when her round tummy became apparent. However the actress dismissed the rumors.

Of late, it has been seen that Kareena has mellowed down and lets her work speaks for herself and has refrained from talking about other actresses and actors negatively. Later she has been generous with praises as she did for Deepika Padukone for the movie ‘Love Aaj Kal’.

Kareena Kapoor wore a bikini for Tashaan, the lime green two piece became a sensation and was the only thing worth watching in the flop movie.  But then for this, she had lost of weights, her pencil thin figure was called 'size zero' . Kareena Kapoor wore bikini again for  Kambakkht Ishq but after this movie, she stated that she would not wear bikini again because her mother was not comfortable with this. Kareena also said that she would do intimate scenes only onscreen with her beau Saif Ali Khan, though there would be exceptions if the script demanded it.

KAREENA KAPOOR – THE LOST FILMS

Though Kareena is a big star, she lost out on many movies that she backed out from which created histories. She turned down Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Kal Ho Na Ho and Page 3. However, she is no working with Madhur Bhandarkar finally for Heroine.

KAREENA KAPOOR'S WEDDING

Though Kareena Kapoor was supposed to marry Saif Ali Khan after Agent Vinod (2012), it looks like the marriage date has postponed to later this year. Saif’s mother Sharmila Tagore said, “I don't know about Soha, but Saif's wedding is definitely happening. It will happen as soon as the weather improves (after the summer and monsoon).”

I wouldn't be able to turn a blind eye to my husband activities like other star wives. I will be screaming down this throat, demanding an account of every minute of his. So you see an actor won't be good for my peace of mind.

The most shocking part of the articles linking me with Hrithik Roshan was the insinuation that I was willing to give up my career to run after him. Please! Not for a man, never.

My co-stars call me selfish. They say you are only interested in yourself and what you are only interested is yourself and what you are doing in front of the camera. I reply, I can't help it; it's what got me where I am.

The one thing I like being in a relationship is that we get to share things. Our experiences about life, comparing notes about things that have happened to us. Then you get companionship, which is great. You laugh, you talk, you fight. There's a mazaa in that. I like everything about being in a relationship. I like feeling secure. I like the companionship, making the other person happy. And if you're in a good relationship, there's nothing you don't like about it.
